Strong Boundaries Are Moral

Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently said, “In my view, the border wall is immoral.” Of course, if you’ve followed American politics a while, as have I, you know this statement is basically ridiculous on her part. Her own state has a border wall in San Diego because they couldn’t control the migration patterns without it. So, Nancy, if a border wall is immoral, isn’t the one in your own state immoral? The one you yourself supported?

But, I’ll not waste time arguing about Rep. Pelosi’s statement. It is obviously political. However, it does beg the question “Can a wall be immoral?”

A wall is basically a boundary. Farmers put up fences, sometimes stone walls, to protect their animals. Wealthy people erect walls for privacy and protection. Schools put up fences to protect children. Are these walls immoral?

It’s a sign of the times, the political party who supports the elimination of boundaries on personal conduct sees fit to eliminate a firm demarcation line for entrance into our country.

God created boundaries and it all started in the Garden of Eden. You know the story, I’m sure. He gave Adam and Eve free rein of all the fruits and bounty of the land and He gave them one boundary–Do Not eat from the Tree of Life.

He gave the first humans ONE JOB and they blew it. Eve listened to Satan and decided she did not want a boundary on her behavior. She convinced Adam to do the same.

God knew better and He gave them over to their own devices. We pay the price for their disobedience to this day.

Sorry, Nancy, but you’re so wrong. Walls are not immoral even if they are supported by your archnemesis Donald J. Trump. The lack of a boundary is immoral.

We are not moral beings without respecting boundaries. We can’t be deemed honest if we cross the line and lie. We are called a trespasser when we cross over into another person’s property. We are a crook if we take what isn’t ours.

As you begin the next year, I pray you’ll take the time to reacquaint yourself with God’s rules on behavior–His boundaries. Your life will be so much more blessed if you stay within those walls. He gave them to us for our protection.

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

Seeing this wall is on my bucket list.
