Starting to Crack?

I grew up on construction sites. Daddy and Grandaddy were builders, and I loved hanging out with them. With a hammer in my hand, I’d tag along to watch and learn.

Take the picture to the left, for example. There’s a good chance this crack in the brick wall is a sign of a sinking foundation.

The bottom bricks were laid on a level run of concrete, the foundation. Then, brick by brick the wall was built. But someday, if the foundation shifts or sinks, the wall of bricks will show cracks. It may eventually crumble and fall.

Same is true of our lives. Your life is built on something and, if your foundation isn’t stable, your life will begin to crack. It may eventually fail completely and crash.

What foundation are you built on?

Are you practicing a lifestyle or following habits God frowns on?

God’s ways have proven to be solid, stable, and blessed. His teachings are best to build your life on, and…it is never too late to start.

You may not be able to reverse all the current cracks or stop some imminent ones, but God is the only one who can completely firm up your foundation from the bottom up. Jesus is the only one who can heal the cracks. Anything man dreams up to do is nothing more than a band-aid or a facade designed to patch or cover up the damage.

Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7: 24-27
